The conference venue is the Aula Magna, located at the Valletta Campus of the University of Malta. The University traces its roots back to the Collegium Melitense, a Jesuit college founded in 1592, before coming into existence as a university in the modern sense in 1769. Presently, the University is home to about 11,500 students and around 1,000 members of staff.

At an area of just 0.61 square kilometres, Valletta is the European Union's smallest capital city. Despite this small size, it boasts an incredibly rich history and culture. Built during the mid-sixteenth century after the failed Ottoman invasion of Malta in 1565, Valletta is home to many museums, churches, auberges, gardens, forts, and bastions. In 1980, the city was declared to be a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
